Described as a ‘game-changer’ for west London, 245 Hammersmith Road is a stunning 11-floor, commercial office building which comprises 242,000 sq. ft of flexible, collaborative space to inspire and connect its occupants.

When it came to managing the riser zone, developer Lendlease turned to Ambar Kelly’s innovative RiserSafe® system to create a secure construction environment that would keep subcontracting teams safe whilst work was being completed.

Ambar Kelly has built a strong working relationship with Lendlease and has collaborated with the contractor on other projects including IQL Stratford, Google, 1 Triton Square and 6-8 Bishopsgate. For the 245 Hammersmith Road project, Ambar Kelly was pleased to be united with Lendlease once more, along with architects Sheppard Robson, M&E contractor Dornan Engineering and concrete frame contractor Mitchellson Formwork and Civil Engineering.

RiserSafe® helps to facilitate 11 functions across the construction process; from driving M&E design to early completion, to eliminating temporary handrails, and providing permanent formwork for concrete. A patented product, RiserSafe® is a made-to-measure solution which saves money and time and reduces risk. As well as eliminating the risk of falls from height through floor openings, RiserSafe® also prevents the spread of smoke and flame in the event of fire, as its solid steel Durbar plate seals floor openings in one action.

On this project, Ambar Kelly worked closely with concrete frame contractor Mitchellson Formwork and Civil Engineering to ensure coordination of the RiserSafe® system with their twin wall construction process.

Compatible with all frame types, RiserSafe® provides horizontal fire protection and has been tested for 90 minutes at the British Research Establishment (BRE) with a temperature of 1000oC underneath without failure to its integrity. When used in conjunction with fire stopping compounds, RiserSafe® has been tested and shown to provide a 120-minute fire-rating for integrity and insulation.

Completed on time and to budget, the stand-out 245 Hammersmith Road project marks a new beginning for both west London and commercial office design in the 21st century. With the incorporation of Ambar Kelly’s RiserSafe®, its construction was executed seamlessly, assuring safety was a paramount priority.
